The conference presents reports focused on sustainability education in various educational institutions. The main theme is how to integrate sustainability principles into the learning process to develop environmental awareness and a responsible attitude toward nature from an early age.
The first working group analyzes ways to implement the concept of sustainable development in educational institutions. Speakers present various methods for introducing sustainability concepts to children through hands-on activities, creative workshops, STEAM methodologies, and international projects such as Erasmus+ and eTwinning. Examples include children creating musical instruments from recycled materials, participating in biotechnology experiments, developing products such as bioplastics or biodiesel, and applying sustainability principles in technology classes.
The second working group explores different possibilities for implementing sustainability in education. A key focus is on fostering children’s environmental awareness through games, experiential learning, and practical activities. The reports showcase creative ways to utilize recycled materials, organize interactive activities, and develop educational games and learning tools from repurposed materials. Additionally, the application of STEAM strategies is discussed, encouraging children’s experimentation, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
The third working group addresses the importance of international collaboration in achieving sustainability goals in education. Speakers from various countries, including Lithuania, Spain, Greece, Romania, and Croatia, share their experiences in integrating sustainability principles into curricula, English language teaching, special education, and other educational aspects. The reports emphasize that global sustainability challenges require collective efforts and active student participation in ecological initiatives.
In addition to these topics, the reports provide numerous practical examples of how educators create sustainable learning tools in schools and kindergartens—from digital games to interactive educational resources that promote environmental values. The discussions also highlight how schools contribute to fostering an eco-friendly lifestyle by recycling materials, developing green educational spaces, and organizing environmental projects.
The reports focus that sustainability education is a long-term process requiring consistent teaching, community involvement, and creative approaches. The speakers’ experiences demonstrate that by engaging students in hands-on activities and providing opportunities to experiment, it is possible to effectively shape their responsible attitude toward the environment and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development

“Vilnius is a School” portal has published a lesson created by the author of the report, „Wood and its Uses”, which contains a lot of information about collecting natural materials in the park and using them sustainably in technology lessons. Practical examples from technology lessons where sustainability is put into practice are given: students use old second-hand materials, make reusable visual aids for a maths lesson, and decorate a space. - Žaislai iš antrinių žaliavų: kūrybiškumas ir tvarumas vaikų ugdyme. eTwining patirtis. Playfulness is a central feature of all pre-school education, an integral part of exploration, experimentation, fantasy and creativity, and play is the child’s most important independent activity. The little explorers of Mažeikiai Kindergarten „Eglutė” are always ready to discover something new! By taking an interest in various activities, observing, exploring, experimenting, creating, sharing their experience, experiencing and feeling objects, their properties, relationships, phenomena and processes with all their senses, discovering what is new to them, deepening their understanding, and developing their skills. By seeing waste management as a complex, responsible process, we aim to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of responsible action through a more creative and meaningful approach. - Tvaraus vystymosi koncepcijos supratimas ir įgyvendinimas „Vaikystėje”. Why is sustainability important? Sustainability is the concept of striving for justice, equity and environmental sustainability in society. It means meeting the needs of the present generation in a way that does not harm future generations.
The importance of the environment is linked to the quality of life, the survival of ecosystems and the longevity of the planet, which we must protect to avoid irreparable damage to nature. It is important to develop environmentally friendly skills from an early age, so that sustainability becomes a habit rather than a chore.
